Outer Banks I’m Coming (Soon)

Next month I get to spend a week in the Outer Banks. This is the vacation I have been looking forward to all year. This will be the first truly relaxing vacation I have had in years. Don’t get me wrong I love my Disney vacations but they really are not relaxing. Yes they are great for escaping from reality but I’m still up before the sun rushing to get out the door to catch a bus to get to the park to get through the line and get to our breakfast reservation on time. And by the end of the night all I want to do is fall into bed. And don’t even get me started on Disney with kids, that was like a stress level 20 on a scale 1 to 10. And the Gulf Shores Trip last year was a stress level 50 on that same scale. I have a pile of books to take with me and two movies I’m going to take with me and I may not get to read or watch them and I really don’t care. I’m sleeping past 7 am and taking an afternoon nap if I want. All I know is the Outer Banks is good for the soul, or at least this Southern Belle’s soul.

Southern Belle Favorite Things: Quality Time

One of my favorite things is spending time with the kids.  My “niece” and “nephew” I guess you could say.  They are my cousin’s kids but I love them like a niece and nephew, plus my cousin was always like the baby brother I never had when we were growing up.  They just moved back home from South Dakota and I can not get enough quality time with them.  The little girl is five and the little boy is seven months old and they both have me wrapped around their fingers.  Those two kids have brought many smiles to my face and have made me laugh more than I can count in the last few months.  I can’t wait to spend more time with them.  I am already looking forward to when we can take her back to Disney World and take him for the first time.

Southern Belle Favorite Things: Favorite Comfort Food

This may sound weirded to some by my favorite comfort food is rice and gravy. White rice with white pepper gravy. I love it! I’ve been eating it since I was a child and to this day to me this is comfort food.

Southern Belle Favorite Things: Summer TV Shows

Summer is not known for the TV shows like the rest of the year is, but this year I have found a few shows that I really like and thought I would share them with you.

1) Night Shift

2) Motive

3) Rizzoli and Isles

I was really surprised that I like Night Shift as much as I do, in fact I am really sad that it is already over the season.  I guess working in a hospital draws me into hospital shows.  I watched Motive some last year when it was on but I have really taken a liking to it this year.  I know Rizzoli and Isles has been on for a while but this show is new to me.  I have never watched it before but it is on after Castle, which I love, so that is how I started watching.  I don’t know what it is but I love the crime shows.

Southern Belle Favorite Things: 2 Favorite Songs (For Now)

Right now I have 2 songs that are my favorites and it is because the words ring so true right now.  The first is “What If It’s You” by Reba McEntire.  The other is “Stepping Stone” by Lari White.  I could listen to these two songs over and over again.  They are almost like my life plying out in song.

Southern Belle Favorite Things: This Country

july 2014

In the spirit of Independence Day tomorrow my favorite thing is my country, the great USA.  I love a lot of things about this country.  I love that we have places like the Outer Banks, Disney World, and the Blacks Hills and that we can travel to them.  I love that we have National Parks like Yellowstone, the Badlands, and the Smokey Mountains.  I love that we have shows like Castle, Criminal Minds, and Duck Dynasty.  I love that we have Mickey Mouse.  I love that we have a history even if it’s not all good.  I love that we have movies like Gone With The Wind, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, and Sleeping Beauty.  I love that we have the Grand Ole Opry, Country Music, and NASCAR.    I love that we are free.  I am thankful for the brave men and woman who help protect this great nation.  I could go on and on with the things I love about this country but I will stop there.  I am proud to be an American and I will show my love for country tomorrow.  Happy 4th of July to all my readers.  Thank you for reading.

Southern Belle Favorite Things: Summer Vacation Spot

If its summertime and I’m going on vacation there is only one place I want to go.  The Black Hills of SD.  Three years ago we went to the Black Hills /Rapid City to visit family, it was our first trip out west, I really did not think I was going to like it out there.  But the fact is  I fell in love with its beauty.  We went out again the next year.  I have been there twice and would go again in a heartbeat.  I think it is a trip you have to take at least once in your lifetime.

Southern Belle Favorite Things: Relaxing Vacation Spot

My favorite vacation spot for relaxing is the Outer Banks of NC.  To me it is a little piece of paradise!  We always go in October so it is so peaceful and quite.  The Outer Banks has wild horses, lighthouses, beautiful sunrises, and even more beautiful sunsets.  Summer in the Outer Banks is a little crazy but fall is just perfect, especially for taking it easy at the beach!  I can’t wait to go back to the Outer Banks!

Southern Belle Favorite Things: Breakfast

Right now my favorite thing to eat for breakfast in a waffle sandwich.  I’m sure you are asking what it the world is a waffle sandwich.  I take two   multi-grain frozen waffles, toast them in the toaster, add about a tablespoon of Almond Butter to one of them, then add about 4 strawberries cut up and half of a banana cut up, and put the second waffle on top.  So it is a strawberry, banana, almond butter waffle sandwich.  It is great!  And with summer here it is nice and light.
