As I mentioned yesterday, I was out of college before I finally had the time and energy to read Gone With the Wind from cover to cover. Not that I had’t tried to read it a few times before then. And I am so glad I finally did make it to the end. At that time once I started reading it I didn’t want to put it down. I would love to do it again, but I have to find the time and energy again. Hopefully within the next year I can make that happen again. My love of all things Gone With the Wind extended into research papers in high school about Margret Mitchell annd one year for vacation, Atlanta so I could go to the Margret Mitchell house. As for sequals to Gone With the Wind don’t get me started on them. Granted there have not been many, two that I am aware of. I have had this discussion with my friend before, I really don’t feel like the book Scarlett is how the great Scarlett O’Hara would pick up and move on after the love of her life Rhett Butler walked out on her, especially after she just finally realized he was the love of her life. And Rhett Butler would never and I mean never marry another woman. Now Rhett Butler’s People I found that a little more believeable. To me Gone With the Wind will always be one of my favorite books and Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara will always be one of my favorite literary couples. Not to mention Rhett Butler has given me false hope for finding the perfect man.
When it comes to Gone With the Wind it makes more sence to start with the movie since I saw it before I read the book. I will never forget the first time I saw the movie Gone With the Wind (if I have shared this story with you before sorry). I was probably in the sixth or seven grade. By this point in my life I had heard about this epic movie called Gone With the Wind but that was it. One night while flipping channels at home with my mom, I discovered it was one tv, and it had just really started, it was net yet to the scene where Rhett is standing at the bottom of the staris staring up at Scarlett. I was told if I wanted to watch it I had to go upstairs to watch it, and since I did not have cable in my room at this time I had to go to my parents room to watch it. I was a goner the first time I saw Rhett Butler standing there at the bottom of the stairs. My mom came later in the movie, I am sure expecting to find me asleep, but I was not my eyes were glued to Rhett Butler and Gone With the Wind. And I can still remember to this day her asking my in shock “are you still watching this?” and my answer being “I love this movie. It wasn’t until I finished college that I was finally able to find the time and attention needed to read the book and learn that the movie and book had a lot of differences. More on the book tomorrow. I think Gone With the Wind is one of those classics that does not get enough air time and part of me wishes in this age of remakes that someone would remake Gone With the Wind but another part of me does not because I know it would not be as good as the original. There will never be another man who could play Rhett Butler like Clark Gable did.
If you are a Disney Fan, like me, you have probably heard there is now an online dating site for Fans of the Mouse called Mouse Mingle. Now let me start out by saying personally I do not feel like online dating is the way for me to find my prince charming. But I wanted to see what Mouse Mingle was so I joined for about a day. It was a real eye opener to say the least. I hope people on there find a love match. I think sites like Match and eHarmony probably have better technology but I think it is nice that Disney fans have a place where they can go to meet other Disney fans, if on-line dating is their thing. If I change my mind about on-line dating then I might think about trying Mouse Mingle for real but until then I will wait for my prince charming to ride up on his white horse or my Rhett Butler to be standing at the bottom of the stairs. I guess this Southern Belle is just a little too old fashioned.
Writing, hopefully as my full time job. Happily married to a man who is the perfect mix of Rhett Butler, Mr Darcy, and Prince Charming. Living live to the fullest and enjoying each day.
I have found where I want to get married! There is this beautiful antebellum house in Natchez called Dunleith, that is a bed and breakfast and they now host weddings. This is how a Southern Belle should get married. Not only is the house beautiful but the grounds are too. If you get married there you are sure to have a wedding to remember and pictures to back it up. Now if only I could find the staircase with Rhett Butler standing at the bottom or if Prince Charming decides to give that white horse of his a break and stop to ask for directions.
This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the movie Gone With The Wind. As I have mentioned many times before, that is one of my all time favorite movies. I will never forget the first time I watched it. I was memorized! And that scene where you see Rhett for the first time, where he sees Scarlet from the bottom of the steps at the bar-b-que, that was when I feel in love with Rhett Butler. A few weeks ago they were showing Gone with the Wind in the theaters for a special two day/night event. I would have loved to have gone to see it on the big screen but I could not find anybody to go with me. But I did purchase the 75th Anniversary Box Set and there is a Life book I would love to get! I am all about Gone with the Wind! I may have to watch it this weekend now! It’s hard to believe that movie has been around for 75 years, it is such a classic.
11) My new-found obsession on TV is “Castle”
12) I’m not the same person I was 4 years ago. I’ve come out of my shell a lot in the last 4 years.
13) I have a picture of Rhett Butler on my bedside table.
14) I thought turning 30 would freak me out more than it did.
15) My favorite modern country song is “Redneck Crazy” song by Tyler Farr. I love the video for it too! The waiter’s are really hot! I think it is really cool that he turned 30 this year too.
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. Let me jump up and down with joy. It’s just another Hallmark Holiday. Restaurants will be packed, there will be a sea of red everywhere you go, and the amount of flowers sent, wow! Last evening I was in a local grocery store and the tables and tables of flowers waiting to be purchased for tomorrow was astonishing. My plans for tomorrow; first I will go to work, where I will be wearing all black because I am just not in the red mood for tomorrow. After work I will come home and spend some time with my new favorite man, Castle. There will be a glass of champagne along the way as well as some time spent with two of my favorite men, Ben and Jerry, Chunky Monkey is a Valentine’s Day must. Then I will curl up with a tall, dark, and handsome man, but his name will depend on what book I chose to read. And I may spend a little time with my favorite man, Rhett Butler.
As I sit here and type I am watching “Gone With the Wind”. I love this movie! I will never forget the first time I watched the movie. I was captivated by it. I was a goner at the scene where Rhett was standing at the bottom of the stairs staring up at Scarlett at the Wilkes’ Bar-B-Que. I want a Rhett Butler of my own! And then when he told her he didn’t give a damn, that was like nothing I had ever seen before, so touching. Rhett really did love Scarlett and he was willing to walk away from her just because he thought she wanted Ashley more than him. Sometimes I think what it would be like if they remade this movie today but then there would never be as good of a Rhett Butler as Clark Gable, so they really could not remake this movie. This movie truly is one of the greatest movies ever and there will never be another.
