My Boys of the Track Are Back!

Well my boys of the track are back!  I guess the big question looping as the Daytona 500 inches closer, can Jimmie become the first driver to ever win eight championships? Or maybe this will be Dale’s year?  I’m sure missing have of last season and getting married during the off season has give Dale a new driving force.  I know he didn’t leave too much dust under his tires already capturing a front row starting spot for the 500.   Between Dale’s return, Jimmie’s drive for eight, Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards retiring, a new title sponsor, new young drivers, and changes to the championship points, I think this season could get very interesting!

Sothern Belle NASCAR Monday: The Lady in Black

Mother’s Day weekend equals no Sunday race.  It used to be that they didn’t race at all on Mother’s Day Weekend but a few years ago that changed and now they race on Saturday night and not on Mother’s Day it’s self.  So Saturday night the boys and girl of the Sprint Cup were in Darlington, SC trying to tame the lady in black.  In the end Matt Kenseth was the one that tamed her, getting his third win of the season.  Joe Gibbs Racing finished One-Two with Denny Hamlin finishing second.  Jimmie Johnson had a top ten finish so he continues to lead the points.  Up next the All Star Race this Saturday night.

Southern Belle NASCAR Monday: Saturday Night VA Style

Saturday night was the first of two Richmond Races.  Short track Saturday night.  Kevin Harvick won the race while Jimmie Johnson added to his points lead.  Dale Jr got another top 10.  Brian Vickers filling in for Denny Hamlin qualified second but didn’t finish as well.  Danica had another rocky race.

Southern Belle NASCAR Monday: Kenseth Is Loving Kansas

Yesterday Matt Kenseth swept through Kansas like a tornado.  He won for the second time this season.  Kasey Kahne finished second and Jimmie Johnson finished third.  Johnson still sits atop the points standings while Kahne has slid into second.  Dale Jr is fifth in points.  Jr has still not bounced back from the off weekend.  Brian Vickers raced again for the injured Denny Hamlin.  It is still up in the air if Hamlin or Vickers/Martin will be in the car this weekend in Richmond.  We will have to wait to see what his doctor, says.

Southern Belle NASCAR Monday: Texas Roundup

This past weekend was a Saturday night race instead of a Sunday afternoon race, and they were in Texas.  Kyle Busch won the race getting the Stetson.  Dale Earnhardt Jr. had another rough race, the off weekend has not been to good to him.  Jimmie Johnson finished in the top ten so he still holds on to the points lead.  Danica had another rough week as well.  For the most part Texas was a typical race not too much drama.  Brian Vickers filled in for the still out Denny Hamlin.  Vickers actually had a good race.  Well next weeks race in fast approaching and we will have to see what happens next.

Southern Belle NASCAR Monday: Martinsville Flames

Yesterday was the first Martinsville Race of the Season.  Cars were bumping and banging off of each other in every turn.  I think the only car that did not have had any damage to it was that of the winner, Jimmie Johnson.  Johnson led the most laps and won, his eighth career Martinsville win.  Dale Earnhardt Jr’s streak ended with his 24th place finish and he lost the points lead.  Danica Patrick finished in the top fifteen, for the first time since Daytona.  It was the first of the five races Denny Hamlin will have to sit out, Mark Martin drove the FedEx Camry to a top ten finish. There were even some flames, Kyle Busch’s car caught on fire after he lost his breaks.  Tempers were flaring too, Harvick turned Vickers around after the checkered flag waved.  All in all it was an event filled day at Martinsville.

Southern Belle NASCAR Monday: Easter Weekend = No Race Weekend

Happy Easter Everyone!  Hope everyone had a good one.  I worked so it didn’t really feel like Easter to me.   Well this weekend was the first off weekend of the season for the Sprint Cup.  There has been a little noise though, Denny Hamlin is out six weeks after a back injury from that wreck with Joey Logano last weekend.  Mark Martin and Brian Vickers will be filling in for the at least five races he will be out.

On a side note there may not have been a race this weekend but today was Opening Day in Cincinnati for the Reds and that is like a national holiday.  Even though they lost it was a great day to have the Reds back on the field.

Southern Belle NASCAR Monday: Sparks Flying in California

Tempers were flaring Sunday afternoon in California. In the final laps of Sunday’s race Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano found themselves battling each other for the win, and last week’s feud had to be in the back of their minds. Bumping and banging off of each other got the best of them while coming around to take the checkered flag. Logano hit the outside wall while Hamlin hit the inside wall, hard, requiring him to spend a couple nights in a California hospital. While they were wrecking Kyle Busch took the lead and the checkered flag while Dale Earnhardt Jr squeaked out a second place finish, and surprisingly Logano finished third. For a second week in a row after the race Logano had a fellow driver come after him. This time it was Tony Stewart. And in his after race interview Stewart had a few choice words for Logano. Logano may have a target on his back at the next race between Hamlin and Stewart. They are off next week for the Easter Holiday so it will be two weeks before we get to see how the whole Logano-Hamlin and Logano-Stewart feuds play out.

Southern Belle NASCAR Monday: Bristol First For Kahne

Sunday afternoon in the hills of Tennessee there was a first Bristol win, a fourth top ten in a row, a fight, and another win for Hendrick Motorsports.  Kasey Kahne got his first Bristol victory holding off Kyle Busch.  If Busch won that would have been his second of the weekend, he won on Saturday afternoon as well.  Dale Earnhardt Jr finished in the top ten, that makes his fourth in a row.  Looks like somebody is having a good start.  Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin are teammates no more, with Lagano moving to a new team this year, and after the race that was apparent to all.  Logano went after Hamlin, Logano blames Hamlin for causing him to crash.  Sunday’s victory for Kahne means that in this young season of four races Hendrick Motorsports already has two victories.  They are on their way to 300.  Johnson had tire problems and finished in the top 25, which caused him to lose the points lead, and Danica Patrick finished in the top 30.

NASCAR Monday: Birthday Present For Kenseth

Yesterday under the Vegas sun Matt Kenseth gave himself a Birthday Gift and first win under new car owner Joe Gibbs.  Kahne put a last lap charge up but came up short.  Johnson finished sixth which means he maintains the points lead that he has had since Daytona 2 weeks ago.  Danica struggled all race and finished thirty-third.  Next week Bristol.
