My Boys of the Track Are Back!

Well my boys of the track are back!  I guess the big question looping as the Daytona 500 inches closer, can Jimmie become the first driver to ever win eight championships? Or maybe this will be Dale’s year?  I’m sure missing have of last season and getting married during the off season has give Dale a new driving force.  I know he didn’t leave too much dust under his tires already capturing a front row starting spot for the 500.   Between Dale’s return, Jimmie’s drive for eight, Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards retiring, a new title sponsor, new young drivers, and changes to the championship points, I think this season could get very interesting!

Daytona 500

Well Jeff Gordon’s last Daytona 500 is over and he did not win.  In fact he was part of a big last lap wreck.  I was a little disappointed with how the 500 ended but it is what it is.  Not a big Joey Lagano fan but it could be worse.  And it looks like it will be sometime before the Busch brothers are back on track.  It looks like Kyle will probably be back before Kurt but we will have to wait and see.  I am not a Kyle Busch fan, but I do feel bad for him, on the eve of the Daytona 500 to break your leg and foot in an accident and have to have surgery, wow!  For a diehard racer like Kyle that has to be tough.  This pretty much hurts his chances of making the chase this year.  Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr were so close but not close enough to grabbing another Daytona 500 victory.  Onward and upward, Atlanta is next.

Good Bye Jeff, You Will Not Be Missed

As always I am a day late and a dollar short but I guess that is how I am going to live my life.  So a few weeks ago Jeff Gordon made a shocking announcement.  This will be his last full season in NASCAR.  Wow!  I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when I heard that one!  Not that I am a Gordon fan but he is giant in the sport, like him or hate him.  I don’t see him leaving NASCAR though.  I think he will do like Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace, and Darrell Waltrip before him and find a spot in the TV booth somewhere.  And I think that would be a good job for him.  He will have the best of both worlds still be in NASCAR but with not as much of the travel so he can spend even more time with his kids.  Now just because this is going to be Gordon’s last year that does not mean I want him to win the Championship this year, that is something for Jimmie Johnson and only Jimmie Johnson to win in my eye.

Five Weeks and Counting Down

Sunday was the five week mark till the start of the 2015 NASCAR Season.  The Daytona 500!  Normally this time of year I am on the edge of my seat waiting for Daytona but this year not so much.  I guess it’s knowing that same stupid championship format is going to be there again this season that has me not looking forward to the start.  I want to be excited for the start of the season I really do but I’m just not feeling it this year.  Hopefully Jimmie can come back this year, maybe that will make me feel better.  Him winning the championship would still not change the way I feel about this new system but  I would be happy for a seventh championship.  Guess we will have to see what happens this year.  Maybe it will be Juniors year.

NASCAR and Disney

I saw on Facebook and Twitter where Jimmie Johnson has been at Disney World this week with his family.  I say good for him he deserves it.  But then I also got to thinking what it would be like to be there at the same time.  It would be so cool if you were walking down Main Street USA and oh I just passed Jimmie Johnson.  Or as your climbing into the car at Test Track and who is getting out of the same car none other than the Six Time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion.  Or at one of the restaurants when they take you to your table there sitting at the table next to you is Jimmie Johnson and family.  I still think that would be really cool!

Favorite Time Of Year

It’s my favorite time of year!  Jimmie, Dale, Kasey and the boys are back at the track!  Saturday night watching the Sprint Unlimited hearing those engines roar was like music to my ears!  It has been a long, cold, wait since November.  To me the Daytona 500 means spring is right around turn 4.  It’s going to be an interesting season, especially with the changes to the chase this year.  I can’t wait to see who comes out on top not only Sunday in the Daytona 500 but also at the end of the year.  Will it be Jimmie Johnson?  Will it be Dale Earnhardt Jr.?  Or will it be somebody else?

And Then There Was One

Yesterday afternoon the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion was decided.  It came down to the end but when the checkered flag waved it was Jimmie Johnson getting his 6th Championship.  #6pack is what they are calling it.  Matt Kenseth put up a good fight but just could bounce back from last weeks not so good race.  Kevin Harvick put up a good fight too but was not able to beat Johnson and that 48 team.

And Then There Were Three

Nine Months ago 42 men and 1 woman set out on their quest to be the last one standing.  Nine weeks ago those 43 were narrowed down to 13.   And now that number is down to three.  And by Sunday evening two more will be out and the last man standing will finally be decided.  After Sunday’s race at Homestead-Miami the 2013 Sprint Cup Champion will be decided.  That one man will start his celebrating and the other 42 drivers will start thinking about their preparations for the start of the new season in three months, trying to find what they need to be the last one standing this same time next year.  Will it be Kevin Harvick?  Will it be Matt Kenseth?  Will it be Jimmie Johnson?  Johnson will start Sunday’s race with a 28 point lead over Kenseth and a 34 point lead over Harvick.  So these two men can not be counted out yet.  Johnson has been here before and has 5 Championships under his belt.  Will this be his 6th?  We will have to wait and see.  It should be interesting!

Express Yourself

As we all start to prepare to do our Christmas or Holiday Shopping I want to share something with you that I love to give as a gift.  (And I love buying for myself too.)  It is something you can use daily and a great way to express yourself at the same time.  I am talking about Tervis Tumblers.   I have seven, my mom has five and I have given one to five people as gifts, so far.  More might be coming this year.  The seven I have really express me.  100_5816

Here is a description of them:

  1. Southern Belle
  2. OBX with a pair of flip-flops (for my favorite vacation spot the Outer Banks)
  3. Fear the Beard with Jase, Willie, Uncle Si, and Phil
  4. Cupcake (since I like to bake) (this is a water bottle)
  5. Pink Flower ( I love pink and it makes me think of the ocean) (this is a water bottle)
  6. Flip Flops
  7. Magnolia’s (make me think Southern Belle)

I use some of them for my coffee and water at work and some of them I use for my coffee just sitting around the house.  My mom’s are mostly Disney, Winnie the Pooh and Minnie, but she does have one that says Mom.  She has both water bottles and cups too.  She uses hers to take her Iced Tea with her to work everyday.  The next one I want to purchase for myself is a Jimmie Johnson one but I think I want that in another water bottle.  They are always bringing out new designs and they always have seasonal favorites.  They have lots of different brands: John Deere, Coca-Cola, Budweiser, Disney, NASCAR, MLB, Duck Commander, Ford, the list goes on and on.  So this year express yourself or help somebody express themselves.
