About an hour and fifteen minute drive from where we were staying in Vandalia Louisiana was West Monroe Louisiana, home of the Robertson Family and Duck Commander. Let me tell you though, West Monroe is bigger than my home town and the town next to us combined. What I saw of West Monroe it is huge. And the Duck Commander warehouse is less than two miles off the expressway. That’s right I said expressway. We did go to the shop at the Duck Commander warehouse. I bought the four kids something that was it, nothing for myself. We did not see anybody from Duck Dynasty but it was fun to see where Duck Dynasty is filmed. I did recognize a few places that I have seen on the show.
In the spirit of Independence Day tomorrow my favorite thing is my country, the great USA. I love a lot of things about this country. I love that we have places like the Outer Banks, Disney World, and the Blacks Hills and that we can travel to them. I love that we have National Parks like Yellowstone, the Badlands, and the Smokey Mountains. I love that we have shows like Castle, Criminal Minds, and Duck Dynasty. I love that we have Mickey Mouse. I love that we have a history even if it’s not all good. I love that we have movies like Gone With The Wind, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, and Sleeping Beauty. I love that we have the Grand Ole Opry, Country Music, and NASCAR. I love that we are free. I am thankful for the brave men and woman who help protect this great nation. I could go on and on with the things I love about this country but I will stop there. I am proud to be an American and I will show my love for country tomorrow. Happy 4th of July to all my readers. Thank you for reading.
I’m a big Duck Dynasty fan as you might have guessed by now, since I don’t try to hide it. So it should come as no surprise when I say I love, love, love the Robertson Family’s Christmas cd, “Duck the Halls”. I got it on Tuesday and have been listening to it non-stop since. I’m real impressed with their singing. One of my favorite tracks in “Camouflage and Christmas Lights” which is song by Missy and Jase’s oldest son Reed. Then there is “Hairy Christmas” which is so the Robertson men. Uncle Si performs a version of “The Night Before Christmas” as only Uncle Si could. Willie, Uncle Si, Missy, and Sadie all have solos on the album, while the whole Robertson Family sings back-up. And just like an episode of the show would end the cd does too, with a prayer from Phil and a closing thought from Willie. I would recommend this cd to any Duck Dynasty fan. I would not expect anything different out of the Robertson Family, this cd fits them perfectly. This cd has quickly become one of my favorite Christmas cds.
Last night I finished reading “Si-cology 1: Tales and Wisdom from Duck Dynasty’s Favorite Uncle”. While it was different then both Phil’s book and Willie’s book I did enjoy reading it. I really enjoyed learning a little more about him and his life. While he is the “life” of the show you really don’t know as much about him as you do the other family members. He talks about his life in the army, meeting and marrying the love of his life, his kids and even his grandkids. This book really shows you a side of Uncle Si that one may not know exists. I would recommend it for any Duck Dynasty fan.
Last week I could not get enough of “The Glades” on Netflix. I was watching 5 or 6 episodes a day. Then I learned that A&E cancelled the show after the season finale just a few weeks ago. Not happy A&E, not happy! Just when I was starting to get into it you go and take it away from me. I am going to miss Jim Longworth. Matt Passmore is great! If it was not for Duck Dynasty I would give up on A&E all together. You may be forcing me to go with out Detective Longworth anymore but I can’t go with out my Robertsons. The Duck Boys make my week!
Sorry, it has been a crazy week around here. I feel like I am going non-stop all day everyday. This Southern Belle is wearing herself out. I work, work, work, try to have somewhat of a social life, make family time, plus try to fit a book or two in there somewhere too. I need a vacation! And except for a few weekend trips coming up in the next few months I don’t have a vacation planned till after the first of the year. I love working hard but some days I feel like I am working too hard. The one plus to the week is the new season of Duck Dynasty. I love that show and it makes me get my mind off stuff for a little bit. I will always make time for Duck Dynasty into my busy schedule. Hopefully the next week goes better.
Last week I finished “The Duck Commander Family: How Faith, Family, and Ducks Built a Dynasty” by Willie & Korie Robertson. This week I read “Happy, Happy, Happy: My Life and Legacy as the Duck Commander” by Phil Robertson. As I said earlier in the week I can’t get enough of Duck Dynasty! I loved these two books! By reading these two books I feel like I know the Robertson Family better. There are some stories that were told in both books but that makes it interesting because they are from different perspectives. It was fun to read how Duck Commander got started. That company really is a labor of love for Phil & Kay and now Willie & Korie. While I liked them both there were parts of Willie’s I liked better but then there were also parts of Phil’s I liked better too. If you are a Duck Dynasty fan I would say these two books are must read. In October there will be another book that will most likely be a must read too, I have already pre-ordered it myself. It is “Si-cology 1: Tales and Wisdom From Duck Dynasty’s Favorite Uncle” by Si Robertson. Now that should be interesting! I can’t wait!
This week I made Duck Commander Cream Cheese Pie. I found the recipe at http://recipesforourdailybread.com/2013/02/18/duck-dynasty-pie-recipe-video/. The website is called Recipes For Our Daily Bread. This is one of Duck Dynasty’s Miss Kay’s recipes. From what I understand it is featured on the Duck Commander DVD. This was really good. In fact I had someone tell me it was better than when I make lemon bars and that person loves it when I make lemon bars. I did do a few things different from what was said/called for on the recipe. Here is what I did different…
1) I doubled the recipe and put it in a 9×13 pan instead of the individual ramekins or a 9 inch pie pan. (I was making it to take to work so I need more than what those two would have provided. So mine were more like Cream Cheese Bars instead of pie.)
2) The crust is made of vanilla wafers, pecans, and butter. I put my vanilla wafers into my Ninja till they were almost powder, then I put the pecans in the Ninja too, which made them almost powder like too. The n before I stirred the butter in I mixed the vanilla wafers and pecans together and then mixed the butter into that mixture.
3) I baked my curst for 20 mins on 325. (I only use an oven at 325, never higher, I just bake a little longer.)
4) I put strawberry pie filling on time.
I must say to me the crust was the best part! I loved it with the strawberry pie filling and don’t know if I would use another kind of pie filling. This is a keeper recipe!
As always I’m coming into a phenomenon a day late and a dollar short. This time it is Duck Dynasty. I just recently started watching the show and I am obsessed. It is so funny! I can’t get enough of Jase, Willie, Jep, Phil, Martin, Godwin, and of course Uncle Si! Every time I watch it my sides hurt from laughing so hard.
The first episode I really sat down to watch was the Season 3 Final where Willie and Korie take the family to Hawaii. After that show I could not wait to watch more. I ordered Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD from Amazon right away and have already pre-ordered Season 3. In fact as we were driving through Georgia on our way back from Disney World I was watching Duck Dynasty on the portable DVD Player. Now that is the way to travel!
I know a lot of people who watch the show. In fact it was because I heard them talking about it so much that I wanted to watch to see what it was all about, and when I saw the previews for the Hawaii episode I knew that was the one I had to watch. I just knew that was going to be interesting! Now I am like them people talking about it. I can’t wait for Season 4!
Uncle Si by far has to be the funniest! I like Jase, Willie, and Phil. Ms. Kay is great too. Jep is quite but boy does he have Ms. Kay wrapped around his little finger and that makes for some entrainment, especially when Willie is around to watch it. I love when Jase gets some wild idea and he takes Uncle Si, Jep, Martin, and Godwin along with him for whatever trick he has up his sleeve next. And then Willie finds them up to no good.
Who knew four men with long beards who hunt, fish and make duck calls could be one of the funniest things on TV? Add in the fact that they pray and don’t really flaunt the fact that they are worth millions of dollars. I think it is just what America needs right now! The Robertson Family could really teach America some lessons!
