Southern Belle Reads: Reading Updates

I have been flying through books it seems like. Here is the run down.

The Sinclair’s Series by J.S. Scott:

I am finished with this series or at least finished until another one comes out and I am pretty sure there will be more after the bombshell shocker in the last book. I would like to go back a read Jason and Hopes book from a different series so that is on my to read list.

The Outer Banks Baker Series by Phoebe T. Eggli:

I am still on Book 2 of this series, Sage Advice to Cover Up a Murder! I took what I thought would be a short break to read, in honor of memorial day, a Civil War Romance but I loved it so much and there are three of them in the series, so I am now working my way through them.

Hearts Touched by Fire Series by Gina Danna:

This is the Civil War series I am currently engrossed in. I finished the first book in less than a week but the second book is a little more of a struggle for me. It is taking a little longer to get into it than the first one did but I will get there, plus I haven’t had as much free time to really jump into it.

Not Quite Crazy by Catherine Bybee:

This was the newest in the Not Quite Series and another one I have finished recently. I am always up for a Catherine Bybee novel.

Come Home to Me by Liz Talley:

This was one of my “car reads” (aka listen as I drive). I really enjoy Liz Talley’s Morning Glory series and I can’t wait for the next one in the series to be released, so I thought I would see what this book was. This book was wow! Is what it is. I highly recommend this book. It was not just a romance it was a work of art.

Up Next:

– Now That You Mention It by Kristen Higgins (car read)

– Finish Hearts Touched By Fire Series

– Finish Outer Banks Baker Series

– Christmas in July reading

– Read Jason and Hopes Story (one of the Sinclairs)

– Reread Gone With the Wind

And I am sure much more

Southern Belle Reads: Not Quite Crazy by Catherine Bybee

I just finished another wonderful Catherine Bybee novel. Not Quite Crazy is the sixth book in the Not Quite Series. This is the third of the Fairchild brothers (Jason) road to love. Although Jason is the oldest of the three flying crazy siblings and the head of the family business but he is the last of the billionaire brothers to find love. In this book I also got to catch up with some old friends from the earlier books. I’m not sure if this is the end of the series but if it is not I know who I would love to see find love next. Now that I think about it more there are actually two people I would like to see find love next. So I really hope this is not the end of the series.

Blog Tour: Review of “Staying for Good” by Catherine Bybee

tour-graphic-sfg

“Staying for Good” the newest book by Catherine Bybee, I was excited for this book and couldn’t wait for its release.  I loved “Doing It Over” and couldn’t wait to read Zoe and Luke’s story.  I am not going to lie, it took me a little while to get into this book but once I did Ms. Bybee did not disappoint.

I was first introduced to Ms. Bybee’s books through the Weekday Bride Series.  I loved that series and this one too, but this series, A Most Likely to Series, is a far cry from the Weekday Bride Series. In this series, Ms. Bybee tackles everyday struggles with everyday people.  Not that it wasn’t fun to get a glimpse at how the better-half lives or might live with the billionaires and movie stars of the bride series

Zoe and Luke were high school sweethearts, who never really got over each other.  The stage is set in the first book when Zoe comes back for her ten-year high school reunion only to see the love of her life, Luke, again.  With her best friend about to marry his best friend and her uncertainty with her current living situation, Ms. Bybee provides a recipe for love.  Of course, there are a few bumps on the road to love for Zoe and Luke, but I would be disappointed if there wasn’t.  But in the case of Zoe and Luke sometimes what you are looking for and what you need the most in life are right were you left them.

There were a few times while reading this I wanted to reach through the pages and shake some of the characters.  And there were a few scenes I was turning my nose up at, but these things are what makes this book so wonderful and more lifelike.  I can’t wait for the third and final book of the series, where the third member of the trio of high school friends finds her Mr. Wright.

Most Likely Series, Book Two

Montlake Romance, Contemporary

January 24, 2017, First Edition

Paperback & Kindle

Zoe Brown may have been voted Most Likely to Never Leave River Bend, but the paper-thin walls and suffocating air of her family’s double-wide trailer were not what she wanted for her life. Other than BFFs Melanie and Jo, the only thing that kept Zoe sane during high school was her boyfriend, Luke.

She didn’t just leave, she escaped—turning her back on the shame of her black-sheep siblings and imprisoned dad. Now a celebrity chef in Dallas, she can afford all the things she never could have growing up. But when she returns to rustic, ruggedly beautiful River Bend, Zoe has to face all that she abandoned—including Luke.

While Luke was a refuge for Zoe in the past, he knows they inhabit totally different worlds now. Anchored by his parents and his job as a mechanic in his father’s shop, Luke never felt the urge to leave River Bend—until Zoe’s return.

But when the two rekindle their old flame, Zoe is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: remain in River Bend and confront her past before it destroys her, or say good-bye to everyone she’s ever loved…again, this time for good.

Review: Not Quite Perfect by Catherine Bybee

tour-graphic

Catherine Bybee has done it yet again!  Not only has she written another great book she has introduced us to another fun couple to love.  Not Quite Perfect is Mary and Glen’s turn to find love.  For these two finding love might just be easier with their feet off the ground, 30,000 feet to be exact.

Going into this book I knew of Mary Kildare from the previous book.  She is Dakota’s best friend and neighbor.  I am not going to lie the fact that this book had Mary as the lead had me a little skeptical about reading it.  I was not sure if I was going to like Mary but I did.  Ms. Bybee has given this character an interesting background that I hope we get to learn more about as the stories progress.

Glen on the other hand well I have taken a liking to all those Fairchild men.  Glen turned out to be quite the charmer.  I loved the way he wooed and courted Mary in this book.  If he was real I would have fallen in love with him too.  I think in the case of this book it was more romantic that they were trying long distance dating, with them being on opposite coasts.

I really liked this book.  If you have read the other books you will want to read this one too because somethings come full circle that started in the previous book.  I don’t care what anyone says if you are new to this series I would start at the beginning other wise you miss out on so much of the character building.

This book will keep you on the edge of your seat.  I think this book would make a good vacation read, or a good cool night by the fire read, since it is fall.  This series if starting to become my favorite series by Catherine Bybee and I loved, loved, loved the weekday bride series.  But then again I am always up for a good romance.

Not Quite Series, Book Five

Montlake Romance, Contemporary

September 20, 2016, First Edition

Paperback & Kindle

With true love, there’s no such thing as a safe distance.

Mary Kildare knows how to read people. It’s both why she makes a great therapist and why she refuses to trust the average bachelor. Staying fiercely independent has been her primary relationship strategy—until wealthy playboy pilot (and commitmentphobe) Glen Fairchild reappears in her life. After a yearlong teasing tug-of-war, Mary and Glen test the waters of attraction, only to find that their physical chemistry runs deeper than flirtation.

At first, a bicoastal romance suits them both—especially since Glen can swoop in and whisk Mary away on one of his company’s planes. But no matter how close they get, they’re still three thousand miles apart. And when Mary’s life is threatened, Glen realizes the one luxury he doesn’t have is time. Can he close the distance between them before it’s too late?

Praise for the Not Quite Series

“Bybee’s magnetic fourth Not Quite contemporary proves that romance can happen in the most unlikely places…The love scenes are sizzling and the multidimensional characters make this a page-turner. Readers will look for earlier installments and eagerly anticipate new ones.”

Publishers Weekly on Not Quite Forever

” Not Quite Dating offers a sweet and satisfying Cinderella fantasy that will keep you smiling long after you’ve finished reading…”

Catching Up

I know my post have been few and far between lately. Well I am hoping to change that. I am officially a one job woman now and I even got a promotion. So my new full time second job is going to be this blog here. So I am going to do a little catching up…

Travel: Well we went to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge for a few days in April. The day we arrived down there was the day the helicopter crashed killing five people. My heart goes out to those affected by the crash. We are getting ready to go to Grand Rapids, MI for a few days here very soon. We have done two Cumberland Falls’ weekends with the kids. Now those were a ball. Well the first one was a ball, the second one the babies were sick so it was not as much fun. But of course our big trip this year is still to come. I’m going to Disney World! Yes again! This is a family trip in October where my three favorite people under the age of eight will be going too. I can’t wait to see how the one and two year old reacts when they see it for the first time.

Baking/Cooking: Well this Southern Belle finally had one of her dreams come true. I got my KitchenAid Stand Mixer for Christmas so I have become the cake from scratch queen. I love it! Some days I will just look at it and think I am so lucky to have it. Cooking on the other hand I have not done too much of that.

Reading: Since late last year I have been obsessed with the Dare Valley Series of Books by Ava Miles and then the Dare River Series and now the Dare Valley Meets Paris novellas. I can’t wait for the next Dare River now. I also read the newest Catherine Bybee book, “Doing it Over”, plus the fourth book in the In Dixie Series by Beth Albright, “Stardust in Dixie”, and then there was the final in the Crossfire Series by Sylvia Day, “One With You”. Boy I really am into series! I loved all those books though.

Auntie: Beside the two trips to Cumberland Falls with the kids, I took the seven year old a girl’s day one day when I was off. We went to the local butterfly show, that was my first time going in years, I don’t think she liked it too much but I did. We also recently as a whole family did the horse park in Lexington, that was cool but I think the two year old how the most fun of any of us. The one year old was scared of the horse but she did well. Of course the hardest part right now for this Auntie is not being able to tell the seven year old we are going to Disney in October, her mommy doesn’t want to tell her till we are getting in the car to leave.

Southern Belle Style: I love saying shirts. One of my newest ones I purchased especially for the seven year old “Suck it up Buttercup”. I always want to tell her that when she starts whining about something.

Well I think that about covers everything I have been up too. I will keep you posted on my happenings and not go so long in between posts. Thank you for continuing to read Southern Belle Charm, without you the readers this blog would be nothing. I hope everyone has a happy and safe Memorial Day.

Doing It Over Blog Tour

Tour-Graphic

I will admit I loved the Weekday Bride Series so much that I was a little nervous to start a new series of books by Catherine Bybee.  I love her books and writing don’t get me wrong but was I going to love these new characters?  Well I do!  And “Doing It Over” far exceeded my expectations.

Melanie Bartlett has had a rough life dropping out of college and having a child with a man who doesn’t want to be a father, so for her to return to her hometown for her tenth high school reunion comes with some mixed emotions.  Ms. Bybee did a great job of catching the essence of a child in the character of Hope Bartlett, Melanie’s daughter, from climbing trees to loving puppies.  The first person Melanie meets on her way back into town is handy man Wyatt Gibson.  Wyatt is a bachelor and finding love is the last thing on his mind.  But all that is about to change once Melanie and Hope Bartlett come to town in “Doing it Over”, the first book in an all new series by Catherine Bybee.

I loved single mom Melanie Bartlett, her daughter Hope and handy man Wyatt Gibson from the start.  Add in a whole list of other loveable characters and I couldn’t help but fall in love with River Bend.   For me it was like reading a Nicholas Sparks novel with twist and turns along the way but love all the way through.  I can’t wait for the second book now.  I just wonder which of Melanie’s two best friends will be finding love in the next book of the series.

DOING IT OVER

Most Likely To Series, Book One

Montlake Romance, Contemporary

April 19, 2016, First Edition

Paperback & Kindle

One small town. Three close friends. True love to last a lifetime.

Voted Most Likely to Succeed, Melanie Bartlett ended up anything but. The down-on-her-luck single mom wants a complete do-over—is that too much to ask? With her family long gone from River Bend, strong, independent Mel is as surprised as anyone to end up in the quaint small town she once called home. But with her friends, Jo and Zoe, by her side, and a comfortable room at Miss Gina’s quirky bed-and-breakfast, she just might have turned the corner on a new life.

Wyatt Gibson never liked the big city. River Bend suits the ruggedly handsome builder just fine. Wyatt knows he’s home, even if that means being charmed by the appearance of Melanie and her spunky, adorable daughter. Is Wyatt’s calm devotion—even amid a coming storm—enough to convince Mel she may have found a home to call her own, a family that never leaves, and a true love to last a lifetime?

Praise for Doing It Over

“The romance between fiercely independent Melanie and charming Wyatt heats up even as outsiders threaten to derail their newfound happiness. This novel will hook readers with its warm, inviting characters and the promise for similar future installments.” –Publishers Weekly

This brand-new trilogy, Most Likely To, based on yearbook superlatives, kicks off with a novel that will encourage you to root for the incredibly likable Melanie. Her friends are hilarious and readers will swoon over Wyatt, who is charming and strong. Even Melanie’s daughter, Hope, is a hoot! This romance is jam-packed with animated characters, and Bybee displays her creative writing talent wonderfully. –RT Book Reviews, 4 Stars

EXCERPT

“I think we should talk about what’s going on here.”

She swallowed. “We’re cooking.”

“Gabi, look at me.”

She shook her head, taking the coward’s way out. If she noticed the lock of hair falling into his eyes a second time, she might have to push it back in place.

“Gabriella?” The smooth texture of his voice was like chocolate on her tongue.

His sticky hand tucked under her chin and forced her to meet his gaze.

He stepped closer, his frame molding to hers and pressing her back against the counter.

She couldn’t breathe.

His thumb traced her bottom lip. “This is a bad idea,” he mumbled her thoughts.

She nodded. “Very poor choice.” Her hands gripped the side of the counter to keep from touching him.

Hunter sucked in a deep breath. “You smell like flowers.”

“I’ll change my shampoo.”

He started to dip his head and she kept talking. “Something musky, so you won’t notice me.”

“I don’t think that’s going to work.”

He was close enough to catch the scent of mint on his breath. “I don’t even like you.” One of her legs lifted and rubbed against one of his.

“I don’t trust you.” His hand moved from her lip the side of her neck.

“You blackmailed me.”

“You tricked me into cooking with your mother.”

She smiled. “The two hardly compare.”

Instead of dropping his lips to hers, he detoured to the side of her neck and kept talking, his breath brushing her skin. “Have you met your mother?”

“That’s sill—”

His lips found her neck.

She moaned and closed her eyes. Such a deliciously bad idea.

Review:

Gabriella (Gabi) Masini was scarred mentally and physically by the man she thought loved her and she loved. Hunter Blackwell will do anything it takes (even blackmail) to get what he wants. For Hunter, Gabi may just be worth blackmailing for and for Gabi; Hunter may just be what the doctor ordered to heal her wounded soul. Treasured by Thursday is not only Gabi and Hunter’s story but also the seventh and final book in the Weekday Bride Series by Catherine Bybee.

Gabi is not sure if she wants to love again after the pain loved caused her in Seduced by Sunday. Hunter just wants to love them and leave them when it comes to women. But when he needs a wife to get something he wants, he turns to Gabi and Alliance to find him a temporary wife. When Gabi turns Hunter down he takes matters into his own hands and lets his money do the talking. Little do they both know that when they let their guards down the sparks will fly and together they can take on whatever comes at them.

I loved Treasured by Thursday, I loved Gabi and Hunter’s story and I liked the fact that while not so happy, Catherine Bybee had a back story in this book that dated back to the first book in the series. One of the things I like best about this series is how the couples from the previous books make appearances in the later books, and this book was no exception. And since it was the final book in the series the previous couples were out in full force to support Gabi and Hunter.

I am not going to lie the release of this book gave me mixed emotions. I was excited to read Gabi’s story, since she is a returning character from Seduced by Sunday, and to learn about Hunter, since he was new to the series. At the same time I was sad because I knew this book was the last one in the series. But I was not disappointed how the series ended. And there is supposed to be a Holiday Brides series coming soon.
