Southern Belle Reads Friday: In Search of the Next Great Read

This week I started two new books.  I’m trying to see which one drew me the most and that would be the book I was going to finish first.  They are two totally different books.  One’s a mystery and one’s a Christian Fiction Romance.  I am all over the board in the types of books I read.  I am looking for a book that is going to draw me in and make me want to not put the book down again.  I am still in my reading funk!  Hopefully real soon I will find “the book”!  The two books I started reading this week are “Death By Bridle” by Abigail Keam and “Once Upon A Prince” by Rachel Hauck.  Hopefully one of these is “the one” I’m looking for or if not hopefully I will find it real soon.

Southern Belle Reads Friday: “30 Things Every Woman Should…”

So next year this Southern Belle turns the Big 3-0.  So preparing for that I have been reading “30 Things Every Woman Should Have And Should Know By The Time She’s 30” Pamela Redmond Satran & Glamour.  So I thought I would take a look at the list and see where I am at.

By 30, you should have …

1. One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come.  No

2. A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family.  No

3. Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.  No

4. A purse, a suitcase, and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying.  Yes

5. A youth you’re content to move beyond.  Yes

6. A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age.  No

7. The realization that you are actually going to have an old age — and some money set aside to help fund it.  Somewhat

8. An email address, a voice mailbox, and a bank account — all of which nobody has access to but you.  Yes

9. A résumé that is not even the slightest bit padded.  Yes

10. One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry.  Yes

11. A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra.  Yes, No, No

12. Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it.  Yes

13. The belief that you deserve it.  Yes

14. A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine, and a plan for dealing with those few other facets of life that don’t get better after 30.  No, No, No

15. A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship, and all those other facets of life that do get better.  No, No, No

By 30, you should know …

1. How to fall in love without losing yourself.  No

2. How you feel about having kids.  Yes

3. How to quit a job, break up with a man, and confront a friend without ruining the friendship.  No, No, No

4. When to try harder and when to walk away.  Yes, Yes

5. How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next.  No

6. The names of the secretary of state, your great-grandmothers, and the best tailor in town.  Yes, No, No

7. How to live alone, even if you don’t like to.  Yes

8. Where to go — be it your best friend’s kitchen table or a yoga mat — when your soul needs soothing.  Yes

9. That you can’t change the length of your legs, the width of your hips, or the nature of your parents.  Yes, Yes, Yes

10. That your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over.  Yes

11. What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love.  Yes

12. That nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs, or not flossing for very long.  Yes

13. Who you can trust, who you can’t, and why you shouldn’t take it personally.  Yes

14. Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.  Yes, but I still do it on a daily basis

15. Why they say life begins at 30  I think so but not 100% sure just yet

So I guess I am not ready to turn 30 next year maybe I will have to put it off another year.

Southern Belle Reads Friday: Old Faithful

I should have known it would take an old faithful kind of book to get me out of my reading funk.  One of the many spin-off books to “The Yada Yada Prayer Group” by Neta Jackson.  I loved “The Yada Yada Prayer Group” and all the books that have come since.  So this week I picked up “Come To The Table” by Neta Jackson.  It is the second book it the second spin-off series after the Yada Yada Series ended.  I can’t get enough of these books or more importantly the people in these books, they feel like family.  These books always make me laugh, make me feel better, and make me think about my faith.  I should have known it would take a book like that to get me back on the reading track.

Southern Belle Reads Friday: What I’m Reading Now

Well I finally finished “Anything He Wants” by Sara Fawkes.  It was a good book but I was a little disappointed how it ended.  I know another part has been released now.  I have now started reading “Hatteras Girl” by Alice J Wisler.  I think I might really like this book because it has one of my favorite things in it, The Outer Banks.  I would move to the Outer Banks if I could, there is no place like it.  Next week I will provide you with an update on where I stand on my 55 books in 2013 stands since it is the end of the first quarter.  Untill next week keep on reading!
