After finally reading the Sobbin’ Women by Stephen Vincent Benet to me it is a far cry from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers the movie. I know it is based off of the story but I would have to say it is a very losely based. But in this case it doesn’t really matter to me, I love Seven Brides for Seven Brother too much to care about does the story match the movie. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers has been my favorite movie for as far back as I can remember.

Southern Belle Movie and Book Week: Nights in Rodanthe Book (And Other Nicholas Sparks Books)
I don’t know why it took me so long to read Nights in Rodanthe. I didn’t read it till after the movie was out. Since it was based in the Outer Banks I am surprised I didn’t jump all over it. I love all things OBX. Don’t get me wrong I would have prefered a happier ending but it really is one of my favorite Nicholas Sparks books. As is the Lucky One, Save Haven and even the Wedding. I still hope to read The Choice and The Longest Ride. I don’t mind reading a Nicholas Sparks book from time to time but they are not my go to read. I try to read the book though before I see a movie, I like it better that way. One I know what to expect and two I know what really happens in case they make it too hollywood.
Southern Belle Movie and Book Week: Nights in Rodanthe and other Nicholas Sparks Movies
I am always game for a Nicolas Sparks movie, but my favorite is probably Nights in Rodanthe. Is it one of his better movies, probably not. But for me everytime I watch it it takes to the place I love most, the Outer Banks of NC. This is actually one of the movies that follows the book a little more too, which I prefere. I have actaully seen the house they used for filming from afar. The Lucky One and Safe Haven are two of my favorites too. I would have liked Dear John more but they changed it up way too much for me. Another side to the making of a good Nicholas Spraks movie is a good actor. Without a good actor the movie is just okay. That is probably what helped Nights in Rodanthe, Richard Gere, how could you go wrong there.
Southern Belle Movie and Book Week: Pride and Prejudice Book
I am not going to lie Pride and Prejudice was one of the hardest books I read but I did enjoy reading it. It was just the difference in eras but that is one of the fun things about Pride and Prejudice, is that it has with stood the test of time. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett have a love story kinda like Rhett and Scarlett’s, in the fact that you just can’t help falling in love with it yourself. Between Gone With the Wind and Pride and Prejudice I really am never going to find Mr. Right because I feel like my Mr. Right needs to be part Rhett Butler and part Mr. Darcy. A few of the Pride and Prejudice veriations/continuations I have enjoyed over the years inculde: Letters from Pemberley, The Darcys & The Bingleys, Pemberley Ranch, and Eligible to name a few. It is amazing the number of books/stories that have come to life from Pride and Prejudice. I am looking forward to another one arriving today from Amazon, Pride and Prejudice and Cheese Grits. It sounds almost perfect to me Pride and Prejudice meets Gone With the Wind but more modern. I am always up for a good southern read.
Southern Belle Movie and Book Week: Pride and Prejudice Movie(s)
Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite movies. My favorite version is probably the BBC version with Colin Firth. I like the newer version too with Keira Knightley. I love Colin Firth to begin with but that version seems to follow the book more. But Keria Knightly was wonderful as Elizabeth Bennett. It was actaully that version I saw frist that made me fall in love with Pride and Prejudice. Then I read the book and then saw the Colin Firth movie. Don’t get me wrong the Keira Knightly version is good and I like it if I want a quick P&P fix but for this Southern Belle Colin Firth will always be Mr. Darcy. I really thought Death comes to Premberly was good too but that is a whole different ballgame.
Southern Belle Movie and Book Week: Gone With the Wind Book
As I mentioned yesterday, I was out of college before I finally had the time and energy to read Gone With the Wind from cover to cover. Not that I had’t tried to read it a few times before then. And I am so glad I finally did make it to the end. At that time once I started reading it I didn’t want to put it down. I would love to do it again, but I have to find the time and energy again. Hopefully within the next year I can make that happen again. My love of all things Gone With the Wind extended into research papers in high school about Margret Mitchell annd one year for vacation, Atlanta so I could go to the Margret Mitchell house. As for sequals to Gone With the Wind don’t get me started on them. Granted there have not been many, two that I am aware of. I have had this discussion with my friend before, I really don’t feel like the book Scarlett is how the great Scarlett O’Hara would pick up and move on after the love of her life Rhett Butler walked out on her, especially after she just finally realized he was the love of her life. And Rhett Butler would never and I mean never marry another woman. Now Rhett Butler’s People I found that a little more believeable. To me Gone With the Wind will always be one of my favorite books and Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara will always be one of my favorite literary couples. Not to mention Rhett Butler has given me false hope for finding the perfect man.
