Crying and Driving

While I have highly enjoyed listening to Gary Sinise’s Grateful American maybe it was not the best book to be listening to while driving. This morning he was talking about the Snowball Express, something I got to get a small glimpse of at Disney World last year and I was balling like a baby. I have shed more tears listening to this book than a need in the whole year before I started it.

Happy Retirement Marty

Today is the end of an era for those of us in Cincinnati Reds Country. The longtime Reds radio announcer is calling his final Reds game today. While I am not as big of a Reds fan as I used to me, many times in my life I tuned in to listen to Marty (and Joe) give the play by play. I just can’t imagine listening to a Reds game without that familiar voice. Hopefully the Reds will give him a win and his final shot to say “and this one belongs to the Reds”. Happy Retirement Marty, Reds Country is going to miss you.

Outer Banks I’m Coming (Soon)

Next month I get to spend a week in the Outer Banks. This is the vacation I have been looking forward to all year. This will be the first truly relaxing vacation I have had in years. Don’t get me wrong I love my Disney vacations but they really are not relaxing. Yes they are great for escaping from reality but I’m still up before the sun rushing to get out the door to catch a bus to get to the park to get through the line and get to our breakfast reservation on time. And by the end of the night all I want to do is fall into bed. And don’t even get me started on Disney with kids, that was like a stress level 20 on a scale 1 to 10. And the Gulf Shores Trip last year was a stress level 50 on that same scale. I have a pile of books to take with me and two movies I’m going to take with me and I may not get to read or watch them and I really don’t care. I’m sleeping past 7 am and taking an afternoon nap if I want. All I know is the Outer Banks is good for the soul, or at least this Southern Belle’s soul.

Southern Belle Reads Book Recommendation: Grateful American by Gary Sinise

I have not fished the book yet but if you are going to read one book the rest of the year I highly recommend Grateful American by Gary Sinise. This book has made me cry and made me laugh in just a matter of minutes from each other. I am so glad I chose to make this a car read, listing to him tell his story has made me appreciate his story even more. Already I have purchased two movies I have not seen, started rewatching CSI:NY, and I’m thinking about rereading both Of Mice And Men and The Grapes of Wrath. He has a passion for everything he does and you can hear that passion in his voice in every chapter of that audiobook.

A Whole New Aladdin

Wednesday night I watched the live action Aladdin. I was not all that impressed. Maybe if I would have known who more than one actor was that might have helped a little. I did like the movie’s A Whole New World. I would have to say of the Disney Summer Three this was my least favorite. Lion King was in the middle with Toy Story 4 taking the top spot for me (except for that ending). And I’m really not looking forward to the two new sequels coming out later this year (Frozen and Maleficent).

Clothes Shopping

Being a bigger size girl I have a limited number of stores I can purchase clothes. My usual go to is Woman Within but anymore I dread ordering from them. Their prices are very high, they almost never offer free shipping, sales are few and far between, and their customer service is rude and inconsiderate. And to top it off the pants I’ve been ordering for 15+ years now for work are never available. And of course a few of the other stores I could order from are owned by the same company so I’m still in the same boat.

Southern Belle Reads: Grateful American

Earlier this year I was super excited for the release of Gary Sinise’s book Grateful American. I preordered it on Amazon but found it cheaper at Sam’s before I even got my preorder. I started it right away but something was holding me back from going further than a few chapters in. Last week it finally hit me when I saw that the audio book won a listening award, this was a book that screamed “car read”, especially since Gary Sinise narrates the book himself. I started listening to it this morning and I am loving listening to him tell his story. He has such a great voice. I would love to see him do the Candlelight Procession at Epcot but it seems we keep missing him by a few days. That will be on my Disney bucket list, Gary Sinise at the Epcot Candlelight Processional.
