Gone (but never forgotten)

15 years already, how can it be? Some days it feels like just yesterday and others it seems so far away. The details of that day stand out in my mind but then again when you lose a friend/family member why wouldn’t they. You were way too young and you had lost your fight.

I wish you were still here, there are so many things I would love to share with you. The most important your grandkids. I know I am not technically their aunt but I hope I am a close stand in (I had a few good teachers you being one of them). I know there are some books we would love to talk about. All I’m going to say is I think you would have enjoyed Christian.

I am going to tell the kids all about you and how much you would have loved being their grandma. Mom and I have enough love to give them for all three of us don’t you worry.

Southern Belle Funk

I have been in quite a funk lately. I thought my vacation last week might help but no. I have been so bad about my five and ten reading and just reading in general. I took a few books with me and hardly opened them. Unless it’s audiobooks or Christmas that’s the only reading I have done. I need to try and get out of this funk. But it’s not just a reading funk it’s a funk in general. I’m not real sure what will get me over this funk.

October is Outer Banks Month

It was in October the first time I went to the Outer Banks and fell in love with it. October is the only time we go to the Outer Banks. So it is only fitting that October is Outer Banks month on the Southern Belle Charm Blog Instagram. All month long I will be sharing some of the photos from our six trips.

Crying and Driving

While I have highly enjoyed listening to Gary Sinise’s Grateful American maybe it was not the best book to be listening to while driving. This morning he was talking about the Snowball Express, something I got to get a small glimpse of at Disney World last year and I was balling like a baby. I have shed more tears listening to this book than a need in the whole year before I started it.

Happy Retirement Marty

Today is the end of an era for those of us in Cincinnati Reds Country. The longtime Reds radio announcer is calling his final Reds game today. While I am not as big of a Reds fan as I used to me, many times in my life I tuned in to listen to Marty (and Joe) give the play by play. I just can’t imagine listening to a Reds game without that familiar voice. Hopefully the Reds will give him a win and his final shot to say “and this one belongs to the Reds”. Happy Retirement Marty, Reds Country is going to miss you.

Outer Banks I’m Coming (Soon)

Next month I get to spend a week in the Outer Banks. This is the vacation I have been looking forward to all year. This will be the first truly relaxing vacation I have had in years. Don’t get me wrong I love my Disney vacations but they really are not relaxing. Yes they are great for escaping from reality but I’m still up before the sun rushing to get out the door to catch a bus to get to the park to get through the line and get to our breakfast reservation on time. And by the end of the night all I want to do is fall into bed. And don’t even get me started on Disney with kids, that was like a stress level 20 on a scale 1 to 10. And the Gulf Shores Trip last year was a stress level 50 on that same scale. I have a pile of books to take with me and two movies I’m going to take with me and I may not get to read or watch them and I really don’t care. I’m sleeping past 7 am and taking an afternoon nap if I want. All I know is the Outer Banks is good for the soul, or at least this Southern Belle’s soul.

Southern Belle Reads Book Recommendation: Grateful American by Gary Sinise

I have not fished the book yet but if you are going to read one book the rest of the year I highly recommend Grateful American by Gary Sinise. This book has made me cry and made me laugh in just a matter of minutes from each other. I am so glad I chose to make this a car read, listing to him tell his story has made me appreciate his story even more. Already I have purchased two movies I have not seen, started rewatching CSI:NY, and I’m thinking about rereading both Of Mice And Men and The Grapes of Wrath. He has a passion for everything he does and you can hear that passion in his voice in every chapter of that audiobook.
